Project Manager
WHAT WE SEEK
Carnegie Learning, a leader in innovative educational content, is seeking a highly motivated and talented Project Manager with extensive experience in educational publishing, specifically with digital content development and publication. Our goal is to enhance educational effectiveness for both teachers and students by continually advancing our methodologies. In this role, you will be instrumental in the development of new products, features, and enhancements for our award-winning print and digital products, which are used by over 500,000 students nationwide in subjects such as math, world languages, and English language arts.
This position primarily focuses on Project Management but also involves taking approved user stories and transforming them into detailed, actionable, developer-oriented product requirements. Successful candidates will have a strong background in managing software application development projects.
WHAT YOUR DAY WILL LOOK LIKE
Develop comprehensive project schedules, utilizing both sprint-based and traditional waterfall methodologies, to coordinate resources and timelines, ensuring seamless end-to-end completion of projects. Monitor progress, adapt strategies as needed, and implement adjustments to meet deliverables on time and within budget
Effectively coordinate and communicate with stakeholders across departments to ensure seamless collaboration and decision-making. Specifically, maintain open and clear communication with Program and Product team members about technical issues and project requirements, facilitating understanding across these groups.
Proactively identify and efficiently mitigate risks by escalating concerns to program management and collaborating with project teams and vendors
Utilize project management tools such as JIRA and Smartsheet appropriately to ensure efficient workflow processes and track progress effectively
Guide project teams in their responsibilities, emphasizing proactive solutioning, responsiveness, and collaboration to enhance team performance and project outcomes
Manage to schedules and respond to shifting priorities across and within projects to maximize business impact
Understand and document complex functionality in sufficient detail to enable successful software development
Identify opportunities, by looking at industry best practices, competitors, and other companies for process improvement and implement change
Develop deep understanding of the business domain and products in your area(s) of responsibility
Develop basic familiarity with the technology and architecture of the products in your area(s) of responsibility
Perform other related duties and special projects as required
WHAT SHOULD BE IN YOUR BOOKBAG
At least two (2) years' experience managing projects through the entire development lifecycle, from user needs analysis through deployment and maintenance
Experience working in Educational Publishing or EdTech preferred
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with a team to clarify ambiguous objectives and deliver results
Experience defining, describing and documenting product components and software functionality
Ability to plan and manage projects at a task level for self and other resources
Problem solver, calm under pressure and able to help steer teams to tackle challenges
Demonstrate a high commitment to quality with a team-oriented and self-directed approach to work
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including in active listening, expectation setting, and consensus building
Analytical and critical thinking applied to complex problems
Multitasking across concurrent projects with varying schedules
Effective, goal-oriented work across multi-disciplinary teams
Management of projects, tasks and schedules
Able to use project management tools, like Smartsheet, Workfront and Jira. Familiarity with XML, basic SQL queries highly desired
