Job Title: Business Development Manager - High Purity Ethanol Department: Sales Reporting to: Managing Director
About the Role: We are seeking an experienced and commercially driven Business Development Manager to grow our high purity ethanol business across Europe. Based in the UK or a key European market, you will be responsible for identifying and converting new sales opportunities, deepening existing customer relationships, and positioning our product portfolio against competing suppliers — with a clear focus on driving incremental volume and revenue.
Who We Are: Since 1989, Greenfield Global has been the leading supplier of high-purity alcohols, specialty solvents, custom blended solutions, and fuel ethanol to businesses worldwide. Greenfield’s primary markets are life science (including pharma/biopharma and medical devices), food, flavor, fragrance, personal care, beverage alcohols, industrials, and renewable fuels. Annually, the company fulfills over 35,000 orders in more than 50 countries through its extensive global supply chain. Greenfield’s low-carbon ethanol helps industries reduce their carbon emissions and meet environmental objectives. Our team of researchers and engineers continue to lead innovation in sustainable energy and chemicals, including green hydrogen, green methanol, sustainable aviation fuel, and renewable natural gas. Job Responsibilities: • Execute a regional sales strategy to deliver incremental volume and revenue growth across target markets including pharma, food & beverage, cosmetics, and industrial sectors. • Identify, prospect, and close new business opportunities with manufacturers, distributors, and end-users requiring high purity ethanol grades. • Manage and grow an existing account base, ensuring long-term supply agreements and maximizing share of wallet. • Monitor European market dynamics, regulatory developments (including EU and UK excise/denaturation requirements), and competitive activity to inform pricing and positioning strategy. • Collaborate closely with supply chain, logistics, and quality teams to ensure customer specifications and delivery requirements are met reliably. • Collaborate with marketing for targeting specific industries (Life Science, Personal Care, Flavor & Fragrance) • Represent the business at industry events, trade shows, and customer meetings across Europe, with regular travel expected. • Maintain accurate pipeline and account data in CRM and report regularly on performance against volume, revenue, and gross profit targets. Your Experience Should Include: • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Life Sciences, or related field. • 4+ years of experience in a business operations, customer support, or commercial coordination role, preferably in the large molecule or biologics pharmaceutical market. • Familiarity with GMP-regulated environments and understanding of biologics manufacturing. • Proven track record in B2B sales or business development within the chemical, specialty ingredients, or bulk commodity sectors. • Experience in ethanol, alcohol, or related solvent markets is highly desirable; familiarity with purity grades, regulatory classifications, and end-use applications is a strong advantage. • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to negotiate complex, multi-year supply contracts. • Established network within European chemical distribution, pharma, or F&B manufacturing markets. • Fluent in English; additional European language(s) an advantage. • Self-motivated, comfortable working autonomously, and willing to travel across on a regular basis (25% estimated). • Strong proficiency in ERP and CRM systems (e.g., SAP, Salesforce). • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills. • Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy and customer service excellence.
