Job purpose:
This position will work directly under the Regional FD Manager and will support the department in advancing community fundraising and volunteer initiatives.
The intern will assist with coordinating regional volunteer activities and serve as a supporting point of contact for volunteers, helping facilitate communication and logistics as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Community Relations
Support the maintenance of donor and community relationships within the assigned region.
Assist in exploring new outreach opportunities to help expand community engagement.
Support mosque and community relations, including distributing campaign materials and assisting with Jummah or Taraweeh collections.
Assist in setting up small community fundraisers and awareness activities.
Provide general fundraising support to stakeholders and help respond to basic inquiries.
Help prepare simple updates, notes, and documentation for the Regional FD Manager.
Assist in using regional social media platforms to promote Islamic Relief campaigns and activities.
Volunteers and Networking
Assist with coordinating regional volunteers, including communication, scheduling, and basic onboarding tasks.
Support volunteer involvement in grassroots community events and activities.
Assist volunteer teams during larger IRC events, challenges, and tours.
Help promote IRC fundraising events and initiatives through volunteer networks.
Attend local and IRC events to support networking and volunteer engagement.
Event Planning and Execution
Assist staff and volunteers in the coordination and setup of local events.
Support IRC’s presence at IR and non-IR events by helping with onsite logistics.
Help prepare and organize materials and equipment required for events.
Assist with transporting or organizing event materials as needed.
Support inventory checks and upkeep of fundraising and promotional supplies.
Qualifications & Competencies
Experience:
Experience supporting events, community engagement, or volunteer activities (volunteer or academic experience accepted).
Experience assisting with coordination or logistics is an asset.
Knowledge, Skills and Attributes:
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with volunteers and community members.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
Comfort engaging with diverse communities and representing IRC professionally.
Basic proficiency with Mircrosoft Office and online communication tools.
Motivation and empathy toward Islamic Relief’s mission and values.
Other:
Current local driving license and access to a vehicle.
Have a flexible approach to work in order to accommodate events, functions and work activity.
As this is a Canada Summer Jobs position, all applicants must meet eligibility guidelines as specified by Service Canada in order to be considered for the above position:
Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period.
Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment.
Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
Hybrid Work Policy:
IRC has a hybrid model where in-office requirements are based on distance from our Burlington headquarters or a regional office (Surrey, Edmonton, Calgary and Ottawa). Depending on where you live, this can range from two days a week to one day a month.

Please note:
This is a short-term internship under the Canada Summer Jobs program (8-week duration), with a salary of $20/hr. Please disregard the annual salary range shown.
