About the role You will support the Australian and New Zealand Audit of Surgical Mortality (ANZASM), a program focused on reviewing surgical deaths to identify opportunities to improve patient outcomes. In this role, you will work across the full data lifecycle, supporting analysis, reporting, and research outputs that inform clinical practice and health system improvement. Your work will contribute to meaningful insights used by clinicians, hospitals and health departments. Key responsibilities include: • Supporting the analysis and reporting of Audit of Surgical Mortality (ASM) data • Contributing to research outputs such as annual reports, hospital reports, publications and presentations • Maintaining and improving data analytics frameworks, including data processing, modelling and visualisation • Developing dashboards and tools to support data interpretation and decision-making • Ensuring data quality, integrity and timely reporting • Working with internal and external stakeholders to improve data use and user experience This is a full-time role based in Queensland, with flexibility to consider strong candidates from other states. The role is 12 months due to funding with the possibility of extension. Download Position Description About the team You will be part of the Surgical Audits team, working closely with project managers, clinicians, and data professionals across Australia and New Zealand. The team manages national and state-based surgical mortality audits, providing independent peer review and contributing to safer surgical care. The environment is collaborative, supportive, and focused on producing high-quality, meaningful work that has real impact on patient outcomes.
About you You are a data professional who enjoys working with complex datasets and translating them into clear, useful insights. You are comfortable working both independently and as part of a team, and you communicate your findings clearly to a range of audiences. You will bring: • A relevant qualification in Data Science, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Health Informatics or a related field • Experience with coding languages such as R, Python and/or SQL • Experience working with clinical, health or safety data across the full data lifecycle • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills • The ability to collaborate effectively and build working relationships • Clear written and verbal communication skills It would also be beneficial if you have: • Experience in health-related analysis, particularly within clinical or surgical registries • Experience with dashboard tools such as Tableau, Power BI or R Shiny • An understanding of data governance, privacy and security in healthcare research This role offers the opportunity to contribute to work that supports improvements in surgical care and patient safety across Australia and New Zealand.
