Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Class 4 Marine Engineer to support operations aboard an operating barge for the 2026 field season. This is a contract position responsible for the safe operation, monitoring, and maintenance of all mechanical and electrical systems onboard the barge, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate, monitor, and maintain barge machinery and systems, including:
- Main and auxiliary engines
- Generators
- Pumps
- Hydraulic and fuel systems
- Conduct routine inspections, maintenance, and basic repairs to ensure safe and efficient operations
- Maintain accurate engine room logs, maintenance records, and defect reports
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues and coordinate repairs as required
- Ensure compliance with Transport Canada, company, and project-specific safety requirements
- Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and emergency drills
- Work closely with the Captain, deck crew, and project personnel to support daily operations
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized engine room and mechanical spaces
- Respond to alarms, malfunctions, and emergency situations as required
