Our Major Incident Room (MIR) within the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit receives, reviews and indexes all material gathered during major investigations. From this material, investigators are then tasked to drive and direct the investigations.
Based in our modern offices near to Birmingham International Airport, the MIR staff have a diverse mix of skills and experience which enables them to provide a bespoke service to the counter terrorism network.
We are looking for a disclosure & receiver/reader officer to join our team on a permanent basis, working 2 days (total of 14hrs and 32mins) be to worked between Monday - Friday, between the hours of 0800 – 1600 but an element of flexibility is required to meet business needs.
The role
The role of HOLMES Receiver/Reader requires the knowledge and skills to review and assess all material gathered on CT investigations. You’ll need a proven investigative background to identify evidential lines of enquiry, recording actions to be taken making appropriate decisions on how material should be entered onto the HOLMES system database. You’ll need to ensure that all lines of enquiry have been pursued to a satisfactory conclusion and any intelligence gathered is properly indexed to assist future investigations.
As a Disclosure Officer you’ll be responsible for examining and listing all material which is generated during an investigation. Your primary role is to consider in accordance with the Criminal Procedures & Investigation Act (CPIA) whether material is accurate & relevant and determine its potential to either undermine the prosecution case or assist the defence ensuring its listing on appropriate court schedules.
This role also carries the additional responsibility of reviewing sensitive material again to ensure it complies with CPIA but also with a view to protecting sensitive sources and tactics commonly utilised by CTU and partner agencies ensuring that the Senior Investigating Officer (SIO), case builders and Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) are suitably informed prior to trial.
These are crucial activities within any CT investigation to ensure the material gathered is accurate, relevant and proportional and to ensure that investigators act within an ethical and legal framework.

Security Clearance
This post requires British nationality (some dual nationalities may be ineligible) and a Developed Vetting clearance.
You will need to undergo additional security clearance checks, with the offer of employment being conditional on obtaining all of the necessary security clearances.
There are limitations on travelling to a small number of countries once in post.
