Perry Ellis International is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Staff Accountant to join our Retail Accounting team. This is not a traditional accounting role; it is a high-impact position that bridges the gap between operations and finance. You will ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data across our retail stores and ecommerce channels by working with high-volume transactional data and performing complex reconciliations across multiple systems (Shopify, NetSuite, and various payment processors).
Key Responsibilities
Sales Audit & Reporting: Perform daily sales audits for ecommerce transactions to ensure accuracy and completeness across all digital platforms.
Reconciliations: Execute credit card and third-party payment reconciliations for online transactions, investigating discrepancies between bank statements, Shopify reports, and internal systems.
General Ledger: Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals and adjustments; reconcile balance sheet and income statement accounts.
Variance Analysis: Support variance analysis by identifying and investigating discrepancies across systems and providing well-reasoned explanations for findings.
Closing Support: Support month-end and year-end close activities, ensuring all deadlines are met in a fast-paced environment.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Ecommerce, Retail Operations, and IT teams to resolve operational issues and provide documentation for audits.
Process Improvement: Contribute to special projects and initiatives aimed at automating and improving current accounting workflows.
Qualifications
Experience: 2–3 years of accounting experience, preferably in a retail or ecommerce environment. Hands-on experience with high-volume transaction processing is strongly preferred.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, SUMIFS). Experience with NetSuite (ERP) and Shopify is highly desirable.
Analytical Ability: Strong mindset with the ability to investigate large datasets and resolve complex variances.
Availability: Ability to work extended hours as needed during month-end and year-end closing cycles.
