The Scalehouse Attendant plays a critical role in daily operations by managing customer transactions, tracking incoming waste loads, and ensuring accurate reporting and communication with internal teams. This position requires strong attention to detail, excellent customer service skills, and adherence to company policies and industry standards. Serving as a key point of contact between customers, and internal teams, this role is essential to maintaining accurate billing, regulatory compliance, and efficient transfer station operations.
Key Responsibilities
Tactical (Day-to-Day) Duties
Cash Handling
Collect and process cash payments from customers accurately
Balance cash drawer/till daily and reconcile discrepancies
Payment Processing
Process checks and cash payments both in person and over the phone
Ticket & Load Tracking
Accurately record and track all incoming and outgoing load tickets
Ensure scale tickets are assigned to the correct company
Verify that all work orders reflect accurate waste attribution
Reporting
Prepare and distribute daily tonnage reports to the customer service team
Assist with daily data entry work orders
Communication
Report and coordinate handling of any non-standard or special waste items
Strategic Responsibilities
Maintain high levels of accuracy and accountability in all financial and operational transactions
Support operational efficiency by ensuring proper documentation and reporting of waste loads
Contribute to continuous improvement by identifying process gaps and recommending solutions
Uphold company policies, safety standards, and regulatory compliance requirements
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required
Previous experience in customer service, cash handling, or administrative roles preferred
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
Basic computer proficiency (data entry, email communication, reporting)
Effective verbal communication skills
Work Environment
Work is primarily performed in a fast paced scalehouse/office environment with frequent interaction with drivers and customers
May require occasional outdoor exposure depending on operational needs
Regular use of computers, radios, and payment processing systems
