Residency: September 8, 2026 - June 28, 2027 Regina Public Library invites applications from accomplished Canadian writers for the position of Writer in Residence. This is a full-time position (36.25 hours per week) and may include days, evenings and/or weekends. The Writer in Residence will devote 45% (16 hours per week) of their time to working with Regina Public Library to schedule and deliver library programs, community/school visits, and one-to-one consultations/mentorship, and 55% of their time to personal writing projects. The residency is to be conducted in-person in Regina. The Writer in Residence will be provided with an office in a Regina Public Library branch. Our candidate of choice will have: • Published works, and a background in the literary field in Canada • Experience working with the public in one-to-one and group settings • Effective interpersonal skills • Encouraging attitude with a strong ability to inspire others • Instruction and facilitation experience in the area of creative writing • Experience mentoring emerging writers and a demonstrated ability to provide constructive criticism in a compassionate manner • Experience working effectively with technology To apply, please provide an introductory cover letter, along with: • CV or resume clearly outlining literary publications and background, mentoring experience, experience working with the public, teaching experience or other forms of public presentation • 10-page writing sample (no more than 10 pages, please) • List of ideas with brief descriptions for library writing workshops or community programming • Letter of reference from a supervisor who can attest to your writing and mentorship skills • Contact information for two additional references that may be contacted for more information • All references should include a daytime and evening phone number and an email address. Please ensure your cover letter provides information on why you are a suitable candidate for this position, taking into consideration and addressing the requirements outlined above. As well as an explanation of your writing - the genres you prefer, the format of your writing and where your works have been published. Please also include examples of previous experience working with the public, leading workshops, one-on-one coaching, mentoring, etc. Salary: $40,000 for the 42-week period. During this period, the Writer in Residence shall designate two weeks (e.g. 14 days), either together or separately, during which services shall not be provided. These two weeks shall be unpaid. Please note that moving expenses to Regina are not covered.
