Role description:
Arcadis is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our Cost Management team in Canada. The team supports construction and infrastructure projects, especially in mobility and retail, by providing commercial, technical, and financial expertise to ensure on-time delivery, budget control, and high standards. This role will support senior-level cost and commercial management across the full project lifecycle. It will maintain accurate cost control, provide commercial and contractual advice aligned with Canadian practice and regulations, and manage contract administration. This role will also support procurement and tendering, collaborate with project teams, clients, and contractors to mitigate risk, and drive value and contractual compliance for projects or components of larger programs.
Role accountabilities:
You will lead cost planning and estimating throughout the project lifecycle. Prepare and maintain project cost plans and budgets from concept through execution, handover, and warranty phases for projects across Canada. Produce detailed quantity take-offs and cost estimates using Canadian market rates, regional labour productivity norms, and local supply chain intelligence. Support feasibility studies, investment appraisals, and benchmarking to inform early-stage decision-making.
Manage commercial and contract responsibilities in line with Arcadis policies and Canadian contract standards, including NEC, CCDC, and other relevant forms. Administer contracts and handle variations, claims, extensions of time, and final account settlements while ensuring provincial and federal compliance. Oversee contractor payment applications, valuations, and final accounts to ensure accuracy and timely processing.
In this role you will also lead or support procurement and tendering activities. Prepare tender documents, evaluate bids, and produce tender reports and recommendations. Provide procurement advice on appropriate strategies to meet project objectives and align with Canadian public procurement rules when applicable. Monitor project costs, prepare monthly cost reports and forecasts, and track committed and forecast expenditure, change control, and contingency utilisation to support financial governance and reporting.
Identify and manage commercial and cost risks, proposing and implementing mitigation measures. Engage in value engineering workshops and provide life-cycle cost and sustainability advice, including whole-life costing and carbon impact considerations aligned with Canadian green building standards (e.g., provincial energy codes, CaGBC/BOMA where relevant). Build strong relationships with clients, contractors, subconsultants, and internal Arcadis teams; support and mentor junior quantity surveyors and quality-assure their outputs. Present commercial and cost information clearly to stakeholders and ensure compliance with Arcadis procedures, client governance, and local statutory requirements such as tax, HST/GST, and import duties.
