Job Description:
EQUIPMENT/MATERIALS:
General office equipment and computer.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Individual works mostly indoors in a well-lighted, air conditioned office. The technician works regular hours with little or no significant overtime. The job has no job hazards, except working in the proximity of some persons who could be considered dangerous. The position requires little physical effort.
WORK INVOLVED:
Complete intake/computer packet and conduct interview with offender using the Diagnostic/Pre-Sentence Information packet and the Texas Risk Assessment System packet. Gather information about defendant's offense, criminal background, personal background and future plans. Evaluate defendant's needs and make recommendations for counseling or placement. Prepare Victim Impact Statement, when ordered by the Court, and as required for Pre-Sentence Investigation Reports. Collect information from victims and other interested parties; conduct interviews in person, by telephone or make outside contact, if necessary. Receive orders from the Court, via Court Services personnel, and prepare appropriate judgment placing offender on community supervision. Provide defendant copy of judgment/conditions of supervision and insure he/she understands what transpired in Court. Forward paperwork to assigned office. Prepare documents related to correcting/amending felony judgments. Perform other related duties as required.
EDUCATION/SKILLS REQUIRED:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Two years' experience in a field that demonstrates an ability to interview and write reports is desired, along with an interest in criminal justice. Other specialized job requirements include the ability to work with people and grasp counseling procedures and practices. Diplomacy and tact are necessary. A valid driver's license is required.
