The Community Activities Officer – Surveillance (CAO) (temporary position) is responsible for monitoring youth through filed visits primarily conducted in the evenings and on weekends. In addition, CAO will assist with youth who are reporting/participating in the Department’s Day Reporting Center. The center provides additional departmental programming and services sanctioned by the court and the Department. The center will focus on education, life skills, monitoring and counseling. Supervision of the youth is composed of juvenile probationers between the ages of 10-17 and will be supervised within the policy and procedure guidelines of the Nueces County Juvenile Justice Center.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
Conduct monitoring visits as per the court order, program description of at the request of the supervising probation officer.
Conduct home visits, curfew checks and school visits.
Enter data on JCMS and electronic monitoring system.
Install/maintain and monitors the performance of the electronic monitoring equipment.
Supervise juveniles during programming hours such a wrap around, counseling sites, speakers’ presentation or any location deemed necessary by the department or the Court.
May assist in escorting, detaining, and transporting a juvenile as required by the department.
Monitors compliance with court orders and programmatic requirements.
Home visits will be conducted any day of the week, preferably during nontraditional hours and weekends when assigned.
Perform all other duties as may be assigned by their immediate supervisor, or their designee.
WORK SCHEDULE:
You shall work a consistent schedule up to 29 hours per week.
You will work (2) days Monday through Thursday from 2pm until 10 pm and Friday and Saturday evenings from 4pm until 9:30pm.
You shall have a lunch break on days working more than 6 hours.
All times are subject to modification to meet the needs of the Nueces County Juvenile Department.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Any employee who drives a vehicle on official business must have a driving record which meets standards set by the County and the County’s insurance carrier.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High Schook Diploma or GED, preferred college credit with special emphasis on Criminal Justice, Psychology, Sociology or Counseling background studies.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals.
Ability to write reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively before groups or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimal.
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Must complete approved restraint training within 30 days of employment and have current CPR and First Aid Certification.
Valid Texas Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and appropriate automobile insurance.
Must have a Defensive Driving Certificate within 6 months of employment.
Must complete training for certification of a Community Activities Officer (CAO).
