As an H&S Assistant at Primech Building Services, you will support the delivery of Health & Safety objectives across our contracts and projects. Working closely with the HSQE Manager, you will play a key role in promoting a proactive safety culture, ensuring compliance with legislation, and supporting continuous improvement across all areas of the business.
Key Responsibilities:
HSQE Leadership & Operational Support
- Support the HSQE Manager in implementing and maintaining effective H&S strategies across Primech Building Services’ contracts, sites, and operational activities.
- Provide professional and practical H&S advice to operational teams, supervisors, engineers, and subcontractors.
- Promote a positive and proactive H&S culture through visible leadership and regular engagement with site teams.
- Challenge unsafe acts, non-compliance, and poor practices while encouraging positive safety behaviours.
- Maintain a strong site presence across contracts to support operational delivery and reinforce safe working practices.
HSQE Management System Development
- Assist in the development, review, and continuous improvement of Primech’s Integrated Management System.
- Review and provide feedback on operational documentation including risk assessments, method statements (RAMS), safe systems of work, and toolbox talks.
- Ensure compliance with relevant H&S legislation and recognised industry standards.
Audits, Inspections and Performance Monitoring
- Conduct regular site inspections and audits, identifying non-conformances and recommending corrective and preventative actions.
- Monitor and track the completion of corrective actions arising from inspections, audits, or incidents.
- Analyse H&S performance data and trends to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Assist with the investigation of incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions, supporting root cause analysis and implementation of lessons learned.
Training, Competence and Engagement
- Support the delivery of H&S inductions, toolbox talks, briefings, and awareness campaigns.
- Identify competency and training requirements across operational teams and subcontractors.
- Work collaboratively with managers to promote H&S awareness and best practice across sites.
- Produce accurate and timely H&S reports, including key performance metrics, incident data, and improvement recommendations.
Requirements
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- NEBOSH or IOSH certification (or equivalent).
- Demonstrable experience in a health, safety, environmental or quality role, ideally within building services, facilities management, or construction.
- Strong knowledge of H&S legislation, regulations, and best practices.
- At least 1-2 years experience in a H&S role.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to produce clear reports and deliver engaging briefings.
- Confident working within site-based environments and engaging with operational teams and contractors.
- High level of IT proficiency, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to various sites.
Desirable (But Not Essential)
- Experience working within building services or facilities management environments.
- Experience supporting or developing Integrated Management Systems.
- Relevant additional H&S or auditing qualifications.

- Typical working hours: 07:30 – 16:30 / 08:00 – 17:00 (may vary depending on operational needs)
