The Foynes terminal, with its capacity of 82,000 m³ and 18 storage tanks, is a key strategic asset capable of handling a diverse range of fuels and biofuels. This facility ensures security of supply and blend flexibility, meeting the rising demand for lower-carbon fuels. Our team will be responsible for the operations, maintenance, and monitoring of the site, and delivering a range of optimisation services.
The Opportunity
We are now recruiting for a Terminal Operator at our Foynes Fuel Terminal reporting directly to the Terminal Supervisor.
The primary function of the Terminal Operator role is to safely and efficiently carry out operational activities contributing to the running of the Terminal.
Key Responsibilities
- Optimise all operations involved in product storage and handling.
- Ensure that operational and safety records are accurately and comprehensively completed where so required.
- Undertake training as appropriate in the operational requirements of the Terminal and its safety management system.
- Carry out any role, at the Terminal, for which appropriate training has been given.
- Liaise with third parties, as appropriate and/or where necessary, on all relevant matters associated to product storage and handling.
- Maintain customer confidentiality at all times.
- Ensure that the requirements of the established operating procedures are efficiently and effectively met.
- Ensure that housekeeping standards are effectively maintained.
- Communicate effectively with appropriate personnel to ensure the efficient and effective performance of the operations department.
- Ensure that the requirements of the Terminal’s safety rules and regulations are adhered to and that all work is carried out in a safe manner, thereby ensuring that the activities undertaken do not adversely affect the health and safety of yourself and/or other individuals.
- To comply with the requirements of Material Safety Data Sheets and other available information in the performance of any activity on the Terminal.
- Liaise with the Maintenance & Stock Control Departments to ensure the efficient and effective co-ordination of Terminal activities.
- Communicate directly with customers, as required, so as to ensure that operational requirements are efficiently / effectively met.
- Liaise with outside agencies, i.e. shipping agents, cargo surveyors, and H.M.C. & E. officials, as appropriate, on all matters pertaining to product storage and handling.
- Ensure the effectiveness of the Q.A System, MAPP, and related procedures and systems of work.
- Fulfill the role of Muster Controller in the event of an incident with major accident potential. To be familiar with the requirements of the Site Emergency Plan and the manner in which it may be activated.
- Participate in shipping operations outside of contracted hours.
- Gain full understanding of IT systems in the control room and how they interact with the terminal operation.
- Understand emergency plans and lead application of these in a potential lone worker setting.
- Undertake fuel quality tasks including sampling and laboratory testing.
- Become competent on all terminal IT systems in the control room and external operating equipment to lead to problem solving of issues around vehicle loading and shipping operations.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- NFQ L5 in a relevant subject, or equivalent.
- Relevant experience of working in and contributing to a continuous 24/7 industrial environment.
- Experience working as part of and contributing to a team.
- Ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge and experience of SHE systems & procedures.
- Competent with the use of Microsoft Office.
- Completed the required company induction into this role.
