DCLS Internship (non-paid) - General Lab101 Truman Medical CenterPerforms tests on blood and body fluids to provide information for diagnosing and combating disease. Works under direct supervision from a Medical Technologist or other qualified personnel. May be assigned to work in specialized section within the department.
Minimum GPA of 2.5 and/or Bachelor of Science degree with the following: 16 credit hours of biological sciences including immunology, genetics, and microbiology, plus 16 credit hours of chemistry including organic chemistry or biochemistry, plus one semester of college mathematics such as algebra, statistics, or calculus.
Must be able to write and speak English.
Must have excellent communication skills, the ability to follow verbal, written, and electronic instructions, and work independently to complete assignments.
Must pass a color-blindness and visual competency test.
Must possess manual dexterity for phlebotomy and for operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
Must have intellectual capacity for performing complex problem-solving, mathematical, and analytical skills.
Must have sufficient judgement to recognize deviations and abnormalities in laboratory results and instrumentation.
Must have mechanical and psychomotor skills sufficient to operate a laboratory computer and laboratory equipment.
