Salary: $1,574.56 bi-weekly, Youth Employment Program – Level 2, based on a 35-hour work week
An additional 6% Vacation Pay will be added to posted salary.
An additional $.87 per working hour, up to $60.90 bi-weekly, Health & Welfare Allowance will be added to posted salary.
Term: 4 months

About the Job:
Energy Geoscience is a branch within the BCER responsible for regulating energy activities relating to the development and management of hydrocarbon reservoirs; working directly with industry partners, stakeholders and other agencies to ensure resource conservation.
Summer students are a valuable part of the BCER workforce. Reporting to the Senior Geoscientist, this position will be responsible for completion of assigned tasks, including data analysis, geological characterization, and regional/local geological correlations. The student will assist in the day-to-day activities of the Energy Geoscience Team. As a member of the team, the summer student will work collaboratively to support the business unit needs and be a part of meaningful project work that will enhance and broaden the knowledgebase of the BCER.
Summer students will be required to work closely with their supervisor in assuring that the responsibilities are completed in a timely fashion.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Support geological characterization by compiling and reviewing relevant well data.
Mapping subsurface geological formations.
Review and organize core reports and analysis.
Audit regulatory submissions and perform compliance outreach.
Perform seismic monitoring network maintenance.
Present a summary of their projects to BCER leadership.
Education:
Working towards a Degree or Diploma (minimum second year completed) in a relevant discipline such as Geology, Earth Sciences, Environmental Sciences, or similar.
Must be returning full-time to post-secondary program in fall 2026.
Experience:
Use of mapping software is an asset, such as Geoscout, AccuMap, (or similar).
Experience organizing data and preparing reports.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) to create professional documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and reports efficiently.
Demonstrated ability to conduct analysis with proven attention to detail.
Experience working independently as well as within teams.
Preference may be given to applicants with a working knowledge of oil and gas industry operational practices.
