Seamstress / Workwear Operator Job Description

Job Purpose
To carry out high-quality garment alterations, repairs, and finishing on workwear and textile products, ensuring all items meet Company quality, safety, and customer standards within agreed productivity targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Garment Repair & Alterations
- Carry out alterations and repairs to workwear garments, including (but not limited to):
- Hemming and leg shortening
- Sleeve shortening
- Zip replacements
- Button and fastener replacement
- Pocket and badge repairs
- Seam repairs and reinforcement
- Operate industrial sewing machines safely and effectively.
- Follow repair specifications, customer instructions, and Company standards.
Quality & Accuracy
- Ensure all garments are repaired accurately and to a high standard.
- Carry out visual quality checks before garments are returned to production.
- Identify and report damaged or unrepairable items in line with procedures.
- Maintain consistent workmanship across high-volume workloads.
Productivity & Teamwork
- Work efficiently to meet daily and weekly production targets.
- Support colleagues and assist in other production areas when required.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe workstation.
- Follow instructions from Supervisors and Team Leaders.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Comply with all Health & Safety procedures, including safe use of machinery.
- Wear required PPE at all times.
- Report hazards, near misses, and equipment faults promptly.
- Adhere to Company policies, including quality, conduct, and data protection.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Experience using industrial sewing machines (lockstitch, overlock, etc.).
- Ability to carry out garment repairs and alterations to a good standard.
- Good attention to detail and manual dexterity.
- Ability to work to targets in a fast-paced environment.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to follow instructions.
Desirable
- Experience in an industrial laundry or workwear environment.
- Knowledge of workwear garments (trousers, jackets, coveralls, hi-vis).
- Previous experience working to quality or production KPIs.
