Tala Thrive is the first global mental health platform focused on culturally competent care. We match clients with therapists and coaches who understand their culture, language, and religion - because you shouldn't have to educate your therapist about your background.
We offer video sessions and self-guided wellbeing programs (launching soon), with a subscription model on the horizon. Our platform is live, our team spans Melbourne and Europe, and we're now preparing to move into B2B partnerships with governments and corporates.
80+ therapists and coaches across 30+ languages
$500K raised from angel investors, including 7 VCs personally investing and the ex-Global Head of Product at Amazon
Featured in Smart Company, Huffington Post, The Guardian, and ABC News
Active interest from governments and corporates for B2B partnerships
Influencers and public figures posting organically — no payment required
Tala Thrive was founded by Sonia Kaurah, a former VC investor and startup mentor with eight years' experience across the Nordics and London, and a Psychology degree from Monash University. She has helped over 200 startups raise their first round of capital.
As our first CTO, you'll join the founding team and take full ownership of our technical direction. The platform is live — but we're now planning a rebuild to support scale, launching new product lines, and expanding into B2B. There's a lot of ground to cover, and you'll have the autonomy to shape how we get there.
You'll work directly with Sonia, our founder and CEO, on everything from architecture decisions to product strategy.
Own the technical vision - architecture, stack decisions, roadmap, and rebuild planning
Lead platform development - oversee the existing product and drive the rebuild for scale
Build the team - define structure, hire developers and contractors, establish engineering culture
Drive security and compliance - ensure we meet data privacy standards across our markets (GDPR and beyond)
Support growth - contribute to B2B technical conversations, investor due diligence, and cross-functional collaboration
Manage infrastructure - costs, vendors, and third-party integrations
Proven experience as a CTO, VP Engineering, or equivalent technical leadership role
Track record of building and scaling digital products - health, SaaS, or consumer tech experience a strong plus
Hands-on engineering background with strong architectural judgement
Experience hiring and managing engineering teams
Comfortable with the ambiguity of an early-stage startup
Clear communicator - you can make complex technical decisions legible to non-technical stakeholders
Equity: Attractive equity stake - this role starts equity-only, with salary planned within 6 months as we secure B2B revenue and/or our next raise
Hours: ~15–20 hours per week, flexible and variable
Location: Fully remote - we have presence in Melbourne and Europe
Other employment: You are welcome to hold other roles while working with us
Platform and brand already built - you are joining at momentum, not ground zero
Backed by investors and advisors with deep networks
Free therapy and coaching as part of our wellness culture
Flexible, remote-first - works alongside other commitments
Real technical ownership and a seat at the founding table
A mission that matters - improving access to mental health care for underserved communities globally
