This role is responsible for opening and closing procedures, staff training and guidance, and ensuring the facility is well maintained. Success in this position requires strong attention to detail and a commitment to upholding health and safety standards for both guests and staff
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Duties include, but are not limited to:
Overseeing daily café operations: ensuring the café opens and closes smoothly, the environment stays clean, and service flows efficiently.
Leading and supporting the team: coaching staff, delegating tasks, and maintaining a positive, collaborative work culture.
Ensuring compliance with health and safety standards: maintaining cleanliness, monitoring food safety practices, and preparing for inspections.
Communicating with management and staff: reporting issues, sharing updates, and helping implement new processes or menu changes.
Monitoring cash handling and POS accuracy: supporting staff with transactions, reconciling drawers, and following financial procedures.
Handling customer interactions: resolving concerns, ensuring a welcoming atmosphere, and modeling excellent service
Managing inventory and supplies: tracking stock levels, placing orders, reducing waste, and coordinating deliveries
Adheres to Conner Prairie's rules of conduct.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Reports to Food and Beverage Manager
Trains and/or oversees training of all staff on guest service expectations, food safety protocols and Conner Prairie Standards.
Assigns staff to job duties based on experience and skills.
Monitors daily performance and productivity

Experience in food service or hospitality required
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to accept constructive feedback and to work collaboratively with upper management and other stakeholders to identify and facilitate needed improvements to the food service program.
Reliable and self directed
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software as needed to draft reports, inventory, and budgets.
Experience with Square POS systems a plus but not required
Education and/or Experience: Relevant experience or training, which may be demonstrated via degree or certificate, completion of apprenticeship, or other experience necessary to become trained in a supervisory role preferred but not required. Working knowledge of Food Safety Standards and Procedures is required. Food handler certification preferred. If not already certified, candidates must be willing to obtain certification upon hire. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is exposed to working in wet or humid conditions (non-weather), and outdoor weather conditions. The employee will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts, in high, precarious places, near fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold (non-weather), extreme heat (non-weather), risk of electrical shock, and work with explosives. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
Conner Prairie is generally open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday, this position will be required to work beyond these hours and when open for special events.
