Who are we?

AusHealth is an Australian medical research charity working for a healthier tomorrow. It has two commercial divisions; they provide revenue management services to healthcare providers and drug-testing services to workplaces.

All AusHealth’s profits go to medical researchers who are seeking cures for disease and developing Australia’s health tech sector. The organisation has been growing since 1985; in 2024, it donated more than $4.5m to medical research.

The Position

The Health Information Manager / Clinical Coder is responsible for assigning accurate and timely clinical codes to episodes of care through detailed analysis of clinical documentation. Coding is performed using the ICD-10-AM and ACHI classification systems, in accordance with the Australian and State Coding Standards.

The role involves troubleshooting and resolving issues related to clinical coding, making informed coding decisions in line with the Australian Coding Standards and hospital guidelines. Where required, complex coding decisions may be escalated to the Coding Manager. The incumbent is expected to liaise with relevant clinical and administrative staff to achieve appropriate resolutions.

The position also contributes to quality assurance activities related to coded data and supports the accurate collection and reporting of health information data.

Essential Criteria

• Degree qualified in Health Information Management to be classified as a Health Information Manager
• Certificate qualified in either Certificate IV in Clinical Classification or Diploma of Clinical Coding to be classified as a Clinical Coder
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Demonstrated aptitude for problem solving and understanding unclear documentation within the medical record
• Strong attention to detail and an ability to stay focused for extended periods of time
• Ability to be team-focused and work independently
• Results-driven, innovative and resourceful attitude:

Reviewing medical records to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with regulatory standards.

Participating in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care delivery.

Portfolio would include coding and auditing for preferred clients

You will make an impact by:

• Perform clinical coding at a high level, covering a broad Case mix.
• sing appropriate initiative, judgement and resources such as the Australian and State Coding Standards.
• Ensure the correct assignment and sequencing of Australian ICD – 10 AM codes and appropriate DRG assignment
• Undertake research as required to assist in making informed judgements relating to clinical documentation, code assignment and application of the National
• and State Coding Standards
• Ability to work with limited supervision and demonstrate a commitment to learning and development in various areas of the role.
