Banyan Global is a member of the consortium currently implementing the U.S. President’s Malaria Initiative (PMI) Reaching Every At-Risk Community and Household with Malaria Services (REACH Malaria) project. PMI REACH Malaria supports countries to accelerate the planning, delivery, and monitoring of life-saving facility and community-based malaria services and drug-based prevention activities with the overall goal of reducing malaria morbidity and mortality, through three objectives:

Strengthened implementation of quality malaria service delivery with a focus on un-reached populations.

Strengthened and more resilient health systems for malaria service delivery from national to community level.

Effective global leadership in malaria service delivery approaches provided.

 

In Nigeria, the PMI REACH Malaria project works with the Government of Nigeria at the state level through the State Ministry of Health (SMOH), the Health Management Board (HMB), and the State Malaria Eliminations Program (SMEP) to support selected health facilities. Banyan Global expects to implement PMI REACH Malaria’s interventions with private clinics in four states: Akwa Ibom, Benue, Oyo, and Plateau.

 

Banyan Global is recruiting experienced and skilled individuals with expertise in the private health sector in Nigeria and in the provision of malaria products and services to work on the PMI REACH Malaria project in Nigeria. We are anticipating hiring up to four full-time consultants as Private Health Sector Advisors (PSAs) with up to one consultant per target state, to be based in each of the PMI REACH Malaria project’s following four state-level offices: Uyo, Akwa Ibom; Makurdi, Benue; Ibadan, Oyo; and Jos, Plateau. Responsibilities

Tasks and Responsibilities

• Work in close coordination with the project manager at Banyan Global home office as well as the project leadership based in the state office and in Abuja;
• Strengthen malaria diagnostic and treatment service at private health facilities in the target state by:
  • Supporting SMOH and SMEP to identify priority high patient volume private sector facilities,
  • Incorporate select private health facilities into SMOH and SMEP monitoring and mentoring schedules,
  • Improving private sector facilities’ access to affordable, quality malaria commodities, and
  • Providing support to SMOH/HMB/SMEP to engage private professional associations in disseminating national malaria guidelines;
• Execute other tasks as needed and appropriate.

Qualifications

Qualifications

Education and Experience

• Post-graduate degree in public health, health policy and planning, or other related field;
• Direct relevant experience working with the MOH and RHBs as well as private health sector providers in Nigeria;
• Training or experience in malaria case management preferred;
• Experience working on U.S. and other international projects, preferably in the health sector.

 Skills and Abilities

• Writing and communications – Ability to write high-level reports under a tight deadline. Excellent organizational, analytical, oral and written communications skills in English;
• Knowledge of one or more languages of Nigeria preferred;
• Systems thinking – Ability to understand, affect, connect, and leverage various parts of a system while maintaining sight of the whole system;
• Flexibility – Ability to expect the unexpected and adjust to what the situation now requires, rather than what was planned.
