Coordinator, Language Assessor Reports to: Manager, Language Assessment Services The Coordinator, Language Assessor provides day-to-day leadership, operational coordination, and hands-on assessment support to Language Assessment staff across York, Simcoe, Durham Catchment Area. The role is responsible for supervising assessors, ensuring consistent and high-quality service delivery, supporting change initiatives, and administering language assessments to eligible adult clients.
Key Responsibilities People Leadership & Supervision • Coordinate appointment scheduling for in-person and online assessments across assigned sites • Ensure smooth daily operations and a high standard of customer service for clients, partners, and colleagues • Provide direct supervision, guidance, and ongoing support to assessment staff • Foster a positive, inclusive, and engaged team culture aligned with the OneAchēv mindset • Lead staff through operational changes, new tools, and evolving funder requirements using sound change-management practices • Communicate site-specific issues, risks, and updates to the Manager in a timely and appropriate manner • Deliver onboarding and ongoing training on CLARS/LAC procedures, policies, and protocols • Liaise with Achēv Site Coordinators to ensure compliance with site-specific, organizational, and safety requirements • Support employee goal-setting, performance development, and the timely completion of performance reviews • Facilitate regular team meetings and contribute site updates to all-staff forums • Collaborate with other Coordinators to identify and implement staff engagement, motivation, and professional development initiatives • Coordinate site coverage and staffing adjustments in collaboration with management and peer coordinators • Proactively support assessors in addressing client and service-provider needs, escalating issues when required • Identify operational issues, recommend improvements, and contribute to continuous service enhancement • Prepare reports and documentation as requested • Travel to other YSD sites as required • Perform other duties as assigned
Language Assessment & Referral • Administer language assessments to adult clients, including providing coverage during staff absences • Complete placement and referral documentation using HARTS/CLARS databases • Respond to inquiries from language training providers and community partners • Ensure a consistent, warm, and welcoming experience for all clients • Screen clients for eligibility and suitability for language programs • Provide general information and orientation sessions to clients • Maintain current knowledge of community partner services and referral pathways • Participate in special projects and initiatives that promote language assessment and training programs
Qualifications: Required Skills, Knowledge, and Experience • Minimum two (2) years of experience supervising, leading, or coordinating staff teams • Demonstrated people-leadership skills, including coaching, mentoring, and performance support • Proven experience supporting teams through operational or organizational change • Strong understanding of change-management principles and the ability to apply them in a frontline service environment • Familiarity with CLARS Operational Guidelines and Language Assessment Centre protocols • Ability to motivate and support staff in a collaborative, service-driven environment • Strong intercultural competence and sensitivity to diverse client and staff populations • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail • Strong consultation, interviewing, and problem-solving skills • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, and Outlook • Experience providing language assessments (preferred) • Working knowledge of HARTS (experienced user preferred) • Knowledge of IRCC and MLITSD eligibility requirements for language programs • Knowledge of language training pathways and community service providers • Access to a reliable vehicle and a valid driver’s licence; ability to travel regularly between multiple sites is mandatory
Education and Certification: • Post-secondary education in a related field (e.g., communications, social work, education, language studies) • Training or coursework in supervision, leadership, coaching, or management an asset • Training on CLB-based in-person and online assessment tools (e.g., CLBPA, RWA, CLBPT, or funder-identified tools) an asset • Continued employment in this role is contingent on successful training and certification on the required assessment tools
• TESL Ontario (TESL ON) certification an asset
