PURPOSE OF POSITION
The Senior Pension Analyst administers complex defined benefit pension plans, ensuring accuracy, regulatory compliance, and high-quality client service. This role performs and reviews benefit calculations, analyzes pension data, prepares reports and filings, and supports plan events throughout the plan lifecycle. As a senior resource, the role provides technical guidance to a team of analysts, collaborates cross-functionally, and contributes to process improvements that enhance efficiency and service quality.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Administer complex defined benefit pension plans in accordance with plan documents, IRS/DOL regulations, and client service agreements
· Draft clear, defensible explanations for benefit determinations
· Perform and review benefit calculations, including normal retirement, early retirement, vested terminations, death, disability, and lump-sum distributions
· Analyze pension data for accuracy, completeness, and compliance; identify discrepancies and compliance risks and recommend corrective action
· Ensure pension plan compliance with DOL, IRS and PBGC requirements. Accurately interpret and apply plan document provisions; verify benefit calculations, coordinate and deliver required notices
· Prepare, review, and reconcile pension reports, participant statements,
· Serve as a subject-matter resource for Pension analysts by reviewing work, providing guidance, and supporting quality assurance efforts
· Respond to client and participant inquiries with clear, professional written and verbal communication
· Collaborate with actuarial, legal, payroll, and client service teams to ensure timely and accurate plan administration
· Participate in strategic projects, including new business development and acquisition integration.
· Support plan implementation, system coding, and Plan termination projects.
· Ensure adherence to internal controls, service standards, and established procedures
· Proactively identify process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and client satisfaction
Requirements
COMPETENCIES REQUIRED
· Demonstrated ability to independently manage complex plans and client relationships with minimal oversight
· Strong knowledge of defined benefit pension plan administration and related regulations
· Experience with ProAdmin by Winklevoss Technologies or Defined Benefit Precision by PensionSoft is a plus; must have strong experience with complex pension calculations
· Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel,
· High level of demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail with the ability to analyze and reconcile large data sets
· Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication
· Strong systems skills (data handling, SQL a plus)
· Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
· Proven track record of consistently meeting or exceeding performance expectations
· Ability to work independently while remaining highly collaborative in a team environment
· Ability to explain complex pension concepts clearly to non-technical audiences
· Professional judgment in handling sensitive participant and client information
· Adaptable and effective in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
· HS Diploma or GED required
· Minimum 7 years of experience related to defined benefit administration services
· Broad knowledge of the retirement plan industry
· Bachelor’s Degree in Math, Accounting, Finance, or related field: equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
