Director, Talent & Leadership Development

The Director, Talent & Leadership Development plays a pivotal role driving the success of the organization’s strategy for talent and leadership development. This role executes strategy objectives by designing harmonized yet adaptable programs to identify, assess, and develop talent, with a strong focus on leadership growth at all levels across all APEI organizations.
This position plays a key role in enhancing organizational knowledge, effectiveness, and capabilities, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improved performance. This role partners closely with HR and departmental leaders to optimize processes, deliver impactful and timely development experiences, and strengthen leadership pipelines within mutually agreed upon timelines to meet the organization’s goals and objectives.
Responsibilities:
Talent Development & Organizational Effectiveness
- Partner with leaders to assess capability needs, identify skill gaps, and co-create initiatives that drive organizational success.
- Build programs to support succession planning, high-potential talent identification, and leadership pipeline development.
- Serve as a coach and facilitator to guide leaders, supporting their development and fostering effective leadership practices across the organization.
- Develop timelines, evaluation metrics, and reporting processes to assess executive talent, including development plans and succession planning, while measuring the effectiveness of talent programs and linking outcomes to strategic objectives.
Learning & Development
- Oversee management of the Learning Management System (LMS), ensure effective utilization and alignment with compliance and training goals.
- Partner closely with HR functions across the organization, to ensure cohesive and consistent delivery of programs.
- Analyze learner feedback and business data to continuously improve development solutions, ensuring alignment with business demands and leveraging best practices, standards, and processes to deliver impactful and valuable learning outcomes.
- Conduct organizational needs assessments and identify learning needs and/or solutions to address skills, knowledge, competency, and performance gaps, building strong partnerships with managers across the organization.
- Drive regular cadence of communication across organizations to highlight learning and development opportunities and to increase usage.
- Facilitate leadership development and content with leaders and teams at all levels of the organization, including leveraging LMS content and development tools.
- Lead the broader L&D Team in the:
- Creation of scalable training programs focused on professional development, technical skills, and employee onboarding.
- Implementation of leadership development experiences in partnership with organizational resources to address individual organizational needs.
- Design and deliver enterprise-wide compliance training, ensuring all employees meet required standards.
- Monitoring and analysis of learner feedback, training metrics, and data to refine and improve learning solutions.
- Design and implement onboarding programs that promote employee success and integration into the organizational culture.
Department Management & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Establish relationships with external vendors and internal stakeholders, deploying their expertise as needed to deliver effective and mutually beneficial training solutions.
- Partner with the broader HR team to standardize assessment tools and talent management practices across the organization.
- Collaborate with leaders to align learning and development efforts with organizational goals while respecting organization and department-specific needs.
- Work with HR partners to facilitate consistent usage of assessment tools, training, and development activities.
- Stay informed on emerging trends and technologies in learning and development, integrating best practices into organizational strategies, while ensuring timely business needs are met.
- Produce robust reporting on monthly and quarterly cadence to highlight usage and compliance data.
Requirements:
- 8-10 years of progressive experience in a learning and development, talent management, or organizational development.
- 5+ years experience managing teams and cross-functional initiatives.
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Knowledge of adult learning principles and instructional design best practices.
- Expertise designing and delivering training programs for virtual and in-person audiences to enhance performance.
- Proficiency in Predictive Index or related assessment tools, with experience integrating these insights into leadership coaching and talent strategies.
- Proficiency with Learning Management Systems (e.g., Docebo).
- Strong communication and influencing skills with the ability to consult and engage effectively at all levels, including senior leaders.
- Experience with curriculum design for diverse audiences and topics.
- Extensive experience managing projects and programs from conception through completion.
- Ability to work independently and thrive in fast-paced, complex environments.
- Skilled at translating business strategies and organizational changes into effective learning and development solutions.
- Proven relationship-building and stakeholder management skills with experience collaborating across teams and leadership levels.
- Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and develop actionable recommendations.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
