As our Prototype & Test Engineer (m/f/d), you are the vital link between theoretical design and physical reality to bring our innovations to life. You will support the "hands-on" lifecycle of our prototypes and early products from the initial build-up and commissioning to rigorous testing. If you thrive in a lab environment and enjoy the thrill of seeing a first-of-its-kind system roar to life for the first time, this is your place.
Your Responsibilities
Support the physical build-up of complex prototypes, ensuring high-quality assembly of mechanical, electrical, and fluidic components.
Be the first to power up new systems, identify "teething troubles," and ensure basic functionality before deep-dive testing begins.
Play a key role in transferring systems from prototype status to production-ready hardware.
Develop, structure, and maintain detailed work instructions, assembly manuals, and process documentation and apply industrial standards for documentation.
Work hand-in-hand with design engineers to eliminate hardware bottlenecks and refine assembly processes, tooling strategies, tolerances, and product robustness.
Support preparation and execution of regulatory and certification tests (e.g., CE, EMC).
Conduct experimental runs, characterization tests, and informal verification.
From initial test planning and setup to the actual execution, you ensure the lab remains a productive, safe, and efficient environment.
Set up data acquisition systems (sensors, loggers, software) to monitor prototype performance.
Process and evaluate raw sensor data to transfer them into actionable insights.
Maintain a strong on-site presence (~80%) to act as the primary point of contact for all physical hardware activities.
Degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a comparable technical qualification.
At least 2 years of professional experience in an industrial or R&D environment, with hands-on involvement in prototype or product build-up, mechanical assembly, or system integration.
Proven hands-on experience in assembling complex mechatronic systems and subassemblies, including alignment, tolerancing, fastening techniques, and precision fitting. Confident working with mechanical drawings, technical documentation, and BOMs.
Solid knowledge of dimensional tolerances, geometric tolerancing (GD&T), fits, surface finishes, and stack-up considerations.
Highly proficient with professional hand tools, torque-controlled assembly, workshop machinery, and precision measurement equipment (e.g., calipers, micrometers, dial gauges).
Practical experience integrating electrical components into mechanical systems, including cable routing, connector handling, mounting of control units, and safe first power-up procedures. Able to read basic electrical schematics and support system commissioning.
Ideally experience with data acquisition & basic data analysis (e.g., Python, LabVIEW) and CAD systems.
Familiar with clean, safe, & structured work environments in production or industrial facilities and documentation practices.
Ability to systematically diagnose mechanical and integration issues using structured problem-solving approaches.
Excellent English skills (German is a plus) and the ability to explain complex technical issues to diverse stakeholders.
Attractive compensation package, including a competitive base salary and stock options
Impactful product promoting better understanding and treatment of cancer
International team, from over 30 different nationalities
Positive work environment with open communication and a collaborative mindset
Onsite work at state-of-the-art facilities
