

Lecturer in Counselling (Level B – Teaching Focus)

The Cairnmillar Institute is looking for a dedicated Lecturer (Level B) in Counselling to deliver exceptional teaching across areas such as Trauma-Informed Practice, Person-Centred Counselling, Assessment & Treatment Planning, Emotion-Focused Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, and Existential Therapy. You’ll have the opportunity to mentor students, develop course materials, and foster professional links that enrich our programs. A minimum of a Masters in Psychology, Counselling, or Psychotherapy, and PACFA or ACA eligibility is essential.
2. KEY RESPONSBILITIES
(1) Teaching and Learning
• Provide excellent teaching both in face-to-face and online environments
• Coordinate units
• Contribute to the maintenance of academic standards and course and unit development
• Contribute to best practice in the design and implementation of assessment of students
• Mentor students
• Develop course material
• Demonstrate emerging leadership in teaching and learning.
(2) Research (optional)
• Support the positive research culture within the Institute
• Contribute to knowledge through peer reviewed publication that demonstrates an emerging track record
• Work as part of a team to obtain external research funding.
Supervise postgraduate research, where appropriate.
(3) Service
• Contribute to partnerships with industry and professional bodies when appropriate
• Attend meetings and actively partake in committees and/or panels
• Contribute to community engagement
• Represent the Institute at academic and/or community forums.
• Carry out other duties as directed by the Dean

Knowledge and Skills
• Ability to work within a team and independently
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Evidence of ability to contribute to external partnerships
Qualifications, Registrations and Memberships
Essential
• A minimum of a Masters level qualification in Psychology and/or Counselling and/or Psychotherapy
• Experience or Ability to teach in some of the following areas; Trauma Informed Practice; Person Centred Counselling; Assessment and Treatment Planning; Emotion Focused Therapy; Psychodynamic Therapy; Existential Therapy
• PACFA or ACA membership, or eligibility for membership
Desirable
• Experience in writing and developing course materials
• Experience teaching in the tertiary sector AQF 7 or above
• Industry experience
Other Requirements
• A current Police Check
• A current Working with Children Check.
