Salary: £47,001 per annum (plus 10% operational allowance)
Base: Denton Wharf, Gravesend
Contract type: Full time (35 hours per week)

What we are looking for:
A Marine/Industrial Mechanical Engineering Technician, with an HNC in a relevant engineering discipline (or equivalent) to join our team to deliver high‑quality services to a broad range of internal stakeholders.
The successful candidate will have strong theoretical and practical experience in diagnosing faults and maintaining mechanical, electrical and control systems across a fleet of marine vessels and equipment.
Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the technician will be committed to developing their skills in line with our ambition to achieve Net Zero by 2040, and support the technological advancements associated with this goal.
A little bit about us:
The Port of London Authority is the statutory harbour authority for the tidal Thames, home to the UK’s biggest port and busiest inland waterway.
The river is set to play a key role in the UK’s move towards a Net Zero economy and in transforming urban logistics too. The opportunities for the future are captured in the updated Thames Vision 2050, which has themes of Trading Thames, Destination Thames and Natural Thames. The priorities for action are safety, Net Zero transition, resilience, technological changes, access and inclusion.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the PLA at a time of growth and transformation, with the Vision setting a clear path for future development. This includes major asset investments for the river.
The ideal candidate will have:
A HNC in a relevant discipline and with both theoretical and practical experience in mechanical engineering.
Competent computer skills including the use of planned maintenance systems.
Have a good understanding of the HSE and MCA regulations overseeing marine maintenance.
Ability to climb ladders and to work in small/cramped spaces, e.g. small boat engine rooms and tank spaces etc.
A strong ability to communicate internally with customers, colleagues etc. and externally with contractors and suppliers.
